I haven’t always felt this way. I was vegan for 5 years and believed that is was the “right way” for everyone to eat. However, 6 months or before my pregnancy I began having health issues that seemed to be like to nutrient deficiencies. I started adding animal products back into my diet. Although it seemed to helped, I was confused as to why I needed to when I was doing everything “right”.
After I gave birth to my son, I started my training with IIN where I was introduced to the concept of Bio-Individuality. The founder of IIN Joshua Rosenthal coined the term when he found that often times what dietary theory (paleo, vegan, etc) works for one person doesn’t work well for another.
This is exactly what I experienced! I’d done everything right! Ate the food and took the supplements that should have supported my health on a vegan diet. And yet they didn’t.
Since experiencing this myself and seeing others feel the same I have embraced bio-indvidiuality. How else could there be so much scientific research showing benefits of often times completely opposite eating styles! A discussion for another day…
Over the next several years I saw how bio-individuality seemed to apply to almost anything in life, not just diet. While often times we are much the same, the differences between us make all the difference!
I have found that our personalities and nature plus the resources, tools and strategies each of us use and thrive with are different than many of our peers. By learning how to leverage those differences with their strengths and weaknesses, we can live a life that feels best for us.
When bio-individuality of diet and life come together they create the concept of Wholistic Individualism: the theory that we will thrive only when we know what works best for our body, mind and soul.
